In order to produce Foie Gras, ducks and geese are force-fed with hydraulic pump, several times per day, until their livers grow up to 10x their normal size. To stop the animals escaping, they are confined, night and day, in small metallic cages.

Why participate?

During the force-feeding period, the mortality rate is up to 20x more important than in traditional bird rearing centres, as a consequence of wounds or infections caused by the metal tube or due to the failure of vital organs.

France is responsible for 73% of the world's foie gras production.

Just as Canada's seal hunt is notorious throughout the world as a crime against animals, leading countries such as those in the EU to ban seal imports, we condemn the French foie gras industry and are calling the worldwide animal rights movement to draw international attention to this cruel industry.

Tell France to stop this cruelty responsible for the suffering and death of 80 million birds every year. Please join us for the World Day Against Foie Gras 2014.

Let's have as many demonstrations as possible worldwide, in front of French embassies or consulates around the world. Actions are already planned in Belgium, UK, Germany, Spain, Peru, Japan, South Africa, USA, Greece, Italy, Denmark. You are all invited!

What are we calling for?

Even though feeding animals in a way that causes unnecessary suffering is prohibited in the European Union, foie gras-producing countries are ignoring this measure.

As the world’s leading producer, the French state continues to actively support force-feeding and to use its influence to hinder any initiative aimed against this industry.

As animals are sentient beings, force-feeding is condemned by a growing number of citizens, agri-food businesses and countries throughout the world.

We are urging France to implement the European regulations within its borders and to prohibit the force-feeding of ducks and geese to produce foie gras.
